Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL) has introduced a Feminine Leave Policy that will allow female employees one paid day off each month.
This is to manage health challenges linked to menstruation, perimenopause and menopause.
The policy takes effect on June 1, 2026, and is part of the company’s broader push to strengthen workplace inclusion and wellbeing.
The announcement was made in Nairobi on June 2 in line with World Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28 ) under the global theme “Together for a period-friendly world.”
KWAL said the initiative reflects its commitment to sustainable diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices across the organisation.
Managing Director Lina Githuka said the policy is rooted in the company’s people-first culture and its recognition of the realities many women face at work.
She noted that advancing gender equity requires employers to respond to health issues that can affect women’s productivity, comfort and overall experience in the workplace.
According to Githuka, the leave policy is intended to create an environment where employees can perform at their best without compromise.

KWAL said the policy is also aimed at promoting open, stigma-free conversations around women’s health while removing barriers to full workplace participation.
The company believes this will help strengthen respect, psychological safety and employee engagement.
Global trends
The wine and spirits maker said the move supports its ambition to attract and retain diverse talent and create equitable growth opportunities for women.
The initiative will also reinforce its reputation as an employer of choice.
KWAL added that the policy aligns with global trends, citing studies showing menstrual health remains an under-discussed issue affecting attendance and productivity in many workplaces.
The company said the initiative is consistent with HEINEKEN’s “Brew a Better World” ambition and its own commitment to building a workplace where everyone feels a true sense of belonging and can succeed.
