President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, married Tanzanian tech entrepreneur Isaya Yunge in a colourful white wedding in Mwanza, Tanzania, on Friday, November 6, 2026. The ceremony took place at Malaika Beach Resort on the shores of Lake Victoria, ending months of public anticipation around the couple’s wedding celebrations.

President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto arrived in Mwanza on Thursday evening to join family members, friends and invited guests. They were accompanied by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and other Kenyan leaders. Footage shared online showed the President and Sudi walking together at a hotel courtyard shortly after their arrival, drawing attention on Kenyan social media.

Charlene made a striking entrance in a long-sleeved, beaded lace gown with a flowing train and veil. Her parents walked her partway down the aisle before she continued towards Yunge. President Ruto wore a burgundy jacket with a white shirt and bow tie, while the First Lady wore a coordinated burgundy-and-white outfit. The couple exchanged vows during an outdoor ceremony attended by relatives, friends and dignitaries.

The wedding followed the couple’s traditional Kalenjin Koito engagement ceremony, held on August 8, 2026, at the Ruto family’s Intonna Heritage Farm in Kilgoris, Narok County. The Koito marked the formal presentation of the groom and his family to the bride’s family, a key step in Kalenjin marriage customs.

The choice of Mwanza for the white wedding reflected the groom’s roots in Tanzania. Under Kalenjin tradition, the groom’s family hosts the white wedding after the Koito ceremony. Yunge is reported to be a Tanzanian technology entrepreneur, and the celebrations were seen as a symbol of the close cultural and family ties between the two countries.

Before the wedding, Charlene held an elaborate bridal shower in Nairobi on November 3. The event, attended by close friends and family, featured a white-and-purple theme and included her sister, Stephanie Ruto. It followed a private “Mother’s Blessing” gathering led by First Lady Rachel Ruto, where family members offered prayers and advice ahead of the marriage.

Security was intensified in Mwanza ahead of the ceremony. Tanzania’s Regional Police Commander Wilbrod Mutafungwa warned residents of possible traffic disruptions along several routes as dignitaries and guests moved to and from the venue. Police said the measures were necessary to ensure the safety of the high-profile event.

The wedding attracted significant attention in both Kenya and Tanzania, with photos and videos from the ceremony circulating widely online. Guests praised the couple’s elegance and the scale of the celebration, while Kenyans followed the event closely because of the President’s family connection.

For the Ruto family, the day marked a major personal milestone. For Charlene and Isaya, it marked the beginning of their marriage after a courtship that had already been celebrated through traditional rites in Kenya.
