Nairobi’s bustling Eastleigh neighborhood boasts a new landmark: Business Bay Square (BBS) Mall, a KSh 25 billion megaproject spearheaded by reclusive billionaire Abdiweli Mohamed Hassan.
Launched in 2023, this sprawling 130,000-square-meter complex has redefined urban commerce in Kenya’s Somali-dominated hub, blending retail innovation with community-focused design.
Abdiweli Hassan, a Somali-Kenyan tycoon, chairs Ten Commodities Wholesalers Ltd, the firm behind BBS Mall’s rapid rise.
The development features hundreds of shops, office spaces, entertainment zones, restaurants, wholesale outlets, a fully equipped hospital, and a mosque—catering to Eastleigh’s diverse population while drawing crowds from across Nairobi.
High-profile visits from the late opposition leader Raila Odinga and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud underscored its regional significance, positioning BBS as East Africa’s largest shopping destination.

Hassan’s journey reflects calculated ambition in real estate and beyond. Beyond BBS, he leads Sunview Medipro International, a key player in medical equipment supply, diversifying into healthcare amid Kenya’s growing sector.
His low-profile style masks a fortune built on logistics, trade, and property, with BBS catalyzing Eastleigh’s shift from informal markets to a modern skyline.
In October 2025, Hassan unveiled his boldest move yet: a KSh 65 billion mixed-use project on 60 acres in Tatu City Special Economic Zone, Kiambu County.
Spanning a decade, it promises residential units, retail outlets, offices, warehousing, and another mosque, partnering with Tatu City developers to fuel Kenya’s industrial boom.
“This is about sustainable growth for communities,” sources quoted him, echoing BBS’s community ethos.
